Let the good times roll....a little bit of this and a little bit of that

Our summer happenings.....

Cam had his big summer concert with the Ensign Symphony and Chorus. And guess who joined them,  Alex Boye !? So cool. It was an incredible concert! And he is an incredible artist! With an incredible journey of a story! 4th of July and patriotic music is up there with my Christmas favorites...there is just some amazing feeling you get that just over powers anything else!

They sang a collection of American favorites in addition to some incredible spiritual and inspiration pieces. One of the songs they song with Alex was one that he had written and originally sang with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, "I want Jesus to Walk with Me". He shared the story of piecing together the music video for the song. They had asked him if he would go back to Africa, where his family is from and find some place to film it there. Along the way, and I don't remember the specifics, he came along an old stone church along the western coast of the continent. As he toured the church, he was told that in the basement of this historic building, is where thousands of African slaves were held as they awaited there departure to the Americas and to the European continent. The room was so full at times, that bodies were stacked on top of one another to fit as many people as they possibly could. He said that it was such a dark place, full of total despair. He could not possibly have imagined what these people must have experienced. But at the same time, Alex commented, he was filled with so much hope. Hope in the Atonement and hope that these people found their peace. And that is where he decided to film his music video for the piece, "I want Jesus to Walk with Me." It was very moving.

My young women :) We all read the Book of Mormon this spring. We set a goal to read it from cover to cover in the amount of time that it took the prophet Joseph Smith to translate it, close to 65 days. It was an absolute incredible experience and the first time I have read it from start to finish in such a short time span. It became a story to me, with a real story time line. I could connect story to story and it became so real to me.

Summer lovin'

Blueberry picking ! Laila ate more than we left with.. She loved it!

Cousin Jack and family came to Oregon to join us for Dad's big 50th! We spent the week playing together. Children's museum, zoo trip, beach trip, finished with the big crabbing trip. The kids actually did amazing on the boat. And Jack was so interested in the crabs....by the end of the trip both kids used their hands to pinch . :)

Visiting more cousins!

Celebrating daddy's birthday! Red Mill Burgers and picnic at the park! Yum!

More cousin time! Playing in the fountain along the waterfront with Grandma and Grandpa Garner in Salem, OR.

Laila's best buds....these little Elmo's live at Katterman's pharmacy, daddy's work. They are the first thing we look for each time we go to pick him up.

Hitting up the Great State Fair :) Laila was in love with the cows. Not sure where that stemmed from. She's been obsessed since. The day was complete with fried food and delicious milk shakes from the Oregon Dairy Farmers of America. Yummmm.

 Family Canoeing Trip- Lake Washington

Another beach trip...

A trip to the Museum of Flight. Really cool actually. We walked on board a 747, HUGE, paroosed through an old Air Force One (which at one time transported Pres Kennady), and some of the first air planes known to man. It was really quite fascinating.
